Harry was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended Charlotte Tech High School and served in the United States Marine Corps. His business experience includes sales and management in industrial chemicals and furniture as well as being a small business owner.

He is now retired and spends most of his time serving his church, North Trenholm Baptist Church. Harry has been involved in church activities from an early age. Presently he serves as the weekly Lay Worship leader at six assisted living facilities in the Columbia, South Carolina area.

He has done this for more than fifteen years and also conducts a Bible study involving troubled teen boys and weekly discussions with a men's growth group.

Harry and his wife Joan reside in Columbia, South Carolina. They have five adult children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
